Automate Plant Modules via Standardized “Module Type Packages” (MTP)

Modularization is a major requirement for automation of equipment. So-called “Module Type Packages” (MTP) can be used for implementation.

MTPs are standardized, manufacturer- and technology-neutral module descriptions acc. VDI/VDE/NAMUR 2658 for simple integration of plant modules for process and manufacturing technology on the control/visualization level (acc. “Process Orchestration Layer” – POL) (“Plug & Produce”).

An MTP describes data objects and operating images. Modularization and standardization make it easier to integrate modules from different manufacturers within a system and it also makes it faster to dynamically adapt to changing conditions, such as product changes or changes in the number of units.

The engineering of a plant modeled with MTP occurs in two steps:

  1. Module engineering – You create and export a standardized MTP using a predefined library of predefined functions. You determine what information is made available to the outside world.
  2. Module Engineering
  3. Plant engineering – You import the created MTP and possibly other MTPs of other manufacturers together in one plant. On the basis of the MTP information, the control system can interpret the data and images of different MTPs in the same way and make it uniform in the visualization style of the respective system and make it operable.

Communication between modules and control level runs via “Open Platform Communication Unified Architecture” (OPC UA). OPC UA enables standardized, service-oriented and manufacturer-independent communication via ETHERNET. The individual devices provide an OPC server that sends the data to the OPC client of the control system.

Requirements for Modular Automation in e!COCKPIT

You can create MTPs for the following devices:

PFC200 Controller

Touch Panel 600

*( Touch Panels must have the “Control Panel” (factory or via the additional license “e!RUNTIME PLC 600”).

Library

You need the “Library MTP” license product (2759-208/210-1000). This license includes use of the “WagoSolMTP” library that is used to create standardized modules.

e!COCKPIT Add-on

You can use the “e e!COCKPIT ” add-on (2759-120/1120-1000) to generate and export an MTP in e!COCKPIT (license required).

The installation of the add-on and the library are described in the following.
