Creating Backup

The Restore function is only possible if the firmware versions are the same at the time of backup and restoration.

  1. You have added a device to your project (see  Add Devices in the Project).
  2. The device is connected online (see  Connect Devices).
  1. In the ribbon, click [Backup/Restore].
  2. In the “Storage location” selection box, choose the network/PC folder or removable media where you want to store the backup.
  3. Under “Backup,” enter the password with which you want to save the backup file in encrypted form and repeat the password entry.
  4. Note: Keep your password safe!
    The password is required to restore the backup. Without the correct password, access to the secured data is no longer possible.
  5. Note: Protect backup file and password from unauthorized access!
    With knowledge of the password and access to the backup file, it is possible to indirectly change the device configuration.
  6. Click [Start backup process].
  7. Note: Backup can take several minutes!
    Creating a backup file may take several minutes.
  8. Settings and user data as well as the CODESYS application are compiled as a backup on the device and then downloaded from the device to the engineering PC as a backup file (*.7zip). A percentage indicator shows you when the download is complete.
  9. If the backup file has been successfully downloaded to your engineering PC, a file browser opens automatically.
  10. In the file browser, specify the location where you want to save the backup file.
    Change the file name if necessary and click [Save].
  1. The backup process is complete.
